Therapy for polyamorous and Consensually Non-Monogamous people

While the mental health field has come a long way in recent decades, psychotherapy training, services, and modalities are still heavily focused on monogamy. Polyamorous and Consensually Non-Monogamous (CNM) individuals and couples can come up against unique challenges. A non-monogamy knowledgeable therapist can hold an affirming and non-judgemental space where you can work through those challenges – without having to educate your therapist about non-monogamy.

I provide affirming and aware mental health services to individuals who are polyamorous, solo polyamorous, in open relationships, or who are otherwise non-monogamous. Additionally, I provide therapy to couples, throuples, and other relationships who are polyamorous and who practice consensual non-monogamy (CNM).

Some common themes emerge for people people and couples who are polyamorous and CNM:

  • Understanding your needs, wants, and boundaries
  • Exploring possibilities unlocked through non-monogamy
  • Understanding what style of non-monogamy works best for you
  • Addressing jealousy and insecurities
  • Working through insecure or less-secure attachment dynamics
  • Developing relationship agreements
  • Identifying and navigating power dynamics
  • Fostering compersion
  • Challenging internalized shame

Whether you are actively non-monogamous or just questioning monogamy, a non-monogamy knowledgeable therapist might be a great fit for you.
